In our infant room, children discover toes, new foods, sounds, and so much more. Our infant rooms maintain a 2:10 ratio with 2 or more children being 18+ months. Teachers work with parents to establish sleep and feeding schedules, ensure children hit milestones, and socialize with other children. You can expect daily art, tummy time, and outdoor walks (weather permitting).
In our toddler rooms, children are crawlers or new to walking. Our rooms maintain a 3:15 ratio. Teachers work on transitioning children off bottles and onto cups, out of cribs and onto sleeping mats, and working with parents to introduce new solids. You can expect lots of sensory play, art, and music and movement from this class.
Typically our 3-year-old children are split between 2 rooms, younger 3's and older 3's, based on birthdays and what is best for the child developmentally. Teachers focus on social skills, sensory play, music & movement, art, and science — teaching kids to share, be respectful to others, and follow a daily routine.
Our Preschool Program gives young children their first exposure to a school setting. We practice appropriate social interactions with staff and classmates, learn routines and procedures, and work on improving skills such as using art tools, classroom etiquette, and name writing.
Typically our 4-year-old children are split between the Preschool room and our Kinder room, based on birthdays or what is best for the child developmentally. Children work on social skills, sensory play, music and movement, art, and science. Teachers focus on sharing, being respectful, and establishing good hygiene habits like hand washing skills.
Children who are 5 and older are in our Kinder room. Here they work on name writing, letters (sight and sounds), math, science, and reading. Our teachers work with children on scissor skills, holding pencils, upper and lower case letters, and much more.
Each month we focus on a theme, a letter, a number, and a shape. Each week children learn from songs, books, and worksheets. In addition to literacy activities, children participate in hands-on activities for science, math, art, and music/movement. Days are filled with outdoor play, sensory play, and lots of classroom choices for free time.

Tips, stories, and updates from The Learning Tree team to help your family thrive.
Starting daycare is a big milestone for both kids and parents. Here are our top tips to make the transition smooth and stress-free.
The first day of daycare can feel overwhelming, but a little preparation goes a long way. Start by visiting the center with your child before their first day so they can explore the rooms and meet their teachers in a low-pressure setting.
Establish a goodbye routine that is quick and positive. A special handshake, a hug, and a cheerful "see you later!" helps children feel secure. Avoid lingering, as it can make separation harder for everyone.
Label everything! From sippy cups to spare clothes, clearly labeled items help teachers keep track and give your child a sense of familiarity. Pack a comfort item like a small stuffed animal or family photo for the first week.
Most importantly, trust the process. It's completely normal for children to take a few days to adjust. Our teachers are experienced in helping little ones settle in and feel at home.
At The Learning Tree, play isn't just fun — it's how children build the skills they need for kindergarten and beyond.
Research consistently shows that young children learn best through play. When kids build with blocks, they're learning math and spatial reasoning. When they play pretend, they're developing language skills and empathy. When they paint and draw, they're strengthening fine motor skills needed for writing.
At The Learning Tree, our daily schedule balances structured learning with plenty of free play. Our teachers use play-based activities to introduce letters, numbers, shapes, and colors in ways that feel natural and engaging to young learners.
Outdoor play is equally important. Running, climbing, and exploring helps children develop gross motor skills, build confidence, and burn energy. Even in Minot's cold winters, we make sure kids get active time in our indoor gym.
If you're looking for ways to extend learning at home, try simple activities like cooking together (measuring and counting), nature walks (observing and describing), or building forts (problem-solving and teamwork).
North Dakota winters are long, but that doesn't mean kids have to be cooped up. Here's how we keep children moving and learning all winter long.
Minot winters can be tough, but at The Learning Tree we believe every season is an opportunity for learning and fun. Our facility includes a full gym where children can run, play games, and participate in music and movement activities even when it's too cold to go outside.
Indoor sensory play is a winter favorite. From play dough and water tables to kinetic sand and finger painting, these activities keep little hands busy while building important developmental skills.
On milder days, we bundle up for short outdoor excursions. Fresh air and natural light are important for children's well-being, and even a brief walk around the building gives kids a change of scenery and a chance to observe the winter world.
At home, try setting up obstacle courses with couch cushions, having dance parties, or creating indoor scavenger hunts. The key is keeping kids moving and engaged, no matter what the thermometer says!
